On Thursday and today the school had a double block of one class. I totally thought I wasn't teaching today, but oops, I was! Was I prepared, kind of! My lesson plan I wrote out for today was totally scraped, because it seemed like too much effort for the students. Today marks my first teaching day without a lesson plan. And it went pretty good. Well how could it not, we just did some quick review, wrote some definitions of mercantilism, colonialism, and imperialism! Then the students worked on their pamphlet promoting New France. All in all good.
I am exited to mark my grade 9 pyramid assignments, they look well done. Hopefully their pamphlet's will be the same. Tomorrow for my grade 8's we start our people of the Renaissance project, so hopefully they will enjoy the research. Then it is on to teaching the 7 years war and the fall of New France. Currently I am watching the Black Robe...to see if it is too violent for the grade 9s to watch. It is all about the Jesuit missionaries in New France. So fart I think it is okay.
Last week I had a great time spelling words wrong on the board, and some students caught the words, others didn't. For example, A thought that the word atanomy was a new art word. What I was really meaning to spell was anatomy. All well! The students also proceeded to laugh when I was writing the definition for vanity on the board..."a worthless pleasure"... can you guess where they laughed??? I just turned around and said I don't find anything funny with this.
After the big disaster that was the grade 8 quiz, and they begged for a re-write, I gave it to them. I told the kids last week that they would have to bring all of their missing work in today at lunch and then they could re-write the test. NO ONE showed up. So I sat around eating lunch in the class waiting and waiting. Tomorrow part of me wants to tell them, but the other part, which I think is going to win, is telling me not to say anything and see if they notice. Well too bad, there will be no opportunity for them to re-write the quiz again. Mr. S told me that no one would show up, but I had a bit of hope. Well after lunch I told him he was right and he laughed.
In other news, I went home for mothers day, it was grand...great to see the fam and the hubby. Church was also pretty good. Ferry schedule sucked all weekend, it was very late. I can't believe that in 2 weeks I will be home, hopefully for good. Working at KK this summer, which I am pretty stoked about...and getting ready for Allison and Bills wedding. Fun times!
