Well people it has been done...my first class of what I hope to be a long and rewarding career. Cheese-ball line!
This morning I woke up REALLY excited about today, and then as the morning wore on I was getting a little nervous, so naturally I made some lemon zinger tea for morning class! It helped. I had two prep blocks today one before and one after lunch. The one after lunch seemed to drag on for FOOOOORRREEEVVVEEER, most likely because it was the 77 minutes before I was teaching.
This is how it went down. Mr. S and I decided to change the seating plan. A) to get the chatty kids separated, and B) So I could learn names. And it worked.
-I got the kids settled
-They read (USSR) for 10 minutes, and then I ask random kids what their book is about. Today, T. said his book was about pot, so I just ignored and went onto the next kid. check YES for me!
-Then we did some partner work, and I paired them up...check YES for me!
-The kids struggled with the activity a little, but Mr. S. said that was partly his fault b/c he should not have said "ok" to the assignment in the first place! So I knew it didn't go over that great, and we worked out what could have been better, and I feel fine about that.
-I got a little impatient waiting for answers, and shared. Again, Mr. S. said I should try to draw answers out of them first. I agree.
-I also need to be aware and develop my teacher eyes and ears!!! Which when Mr. S. pointed out things I missed, I couldn't believe I had been totally oblivious to it. It just amazed me, that I didn't pick up on the hallway noise. Duh! Mr. S said that will come in time, I just need to be aware.
-Timing....we had 10 minutes left to spare, and so I just need to slow everything down, therefore dragging out discussion would help that out!
-The best part of all...my use of board space! Thats right, Mr. S. said I have perfect board writing. I liked that! And I was really good at emphazing what the kids needed to write down!
-We marked our first test together today, not too bad, but I have something to show Mrs. J. on Thursday. She will be the real test....got to get in tip top shape for her!!!
That is all for now folks. Overall I feel it was a successful fist day. THANKS BE TO GOD!!! It was all Him. HE deserves the glory. Love the power of prayer.
